* WHAT...For the Cold Weather Advisory, dangerously cold wind chill temperatures as low as 15 below expected. For the High Wind Watch, northeast winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts 60 mph or greater possible. * WHERE...City and Borough of Juneau. * WHEN...For the Cold Weather Advisory, from 6 PM Thursday to noon AKST Sunday. For the High Wind Watch, from Saturday morning through Sunday morning. * IMPACTS...High winds could blow around unsecured objects, damage property and cause power outages. Travel could be difficult. Frostbite and hypothermia are possible if exposed to these temperatures. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Conditions are looking very likely for a strong Taku Wind event to occur this weekend that could begin as early as Friday evening and could last well into Sunday. Currently the strongest winds are most likely to occur during the day on Saturday. Wind gusts above 60 mph are very likely to occur, with fluctuations over night into the early morning. There is still some uncertainty on the exact strength of these wind gusts, but we will continue to monitor this forecast closely and update as confidence increases. Cold wind chills down to 15 below are also likely across the area. Downtown Juneau, South Douglas Island, and Thane will be warmer than other areas across Juneau due to warmer air from the Taku Wind event. Coldest conditions will be from Friday into the weekend.
